Changes in Casino Laws

New Options for Gamblers

Artur Mas struggled during his recent trip toMassachusetts,USAto make clear that even a state that has made the biomedical industry its main economic asset, promotes an industry as far as gambling. The president of the Generalitat said he had found on the ground that the world of slot machines and biomedical laboratories “are not incompatible models, but quite the opposite.” In this way, he is seeking to cover his campaign to get Euro Vegas installed inCatalonia, despite being against some of the ideas or the economic model followed byCataloniaand the research and development they have. But he did not preach in a neutral setting: yet it did inBoston, the capital ofMassachusettsand hometown of Sheldon Adelson, the casino mogul that promotes Euro Vegas.

Cedric Cromwell, the tribal chief ofTauntonMassachusetts. Massachusetts, which engaged in R & D to 5.5% of gross domestic product, more than triple that Catalonia, decided last year to legalize a casino resort type, that is filled with game rooms in hotels with entertainment areas, services and shopping centers. The state governor, Deval Patrick, sought to attract to the most disadvantaged areas of the State the benefits of an industry that until now remained the exclusive neighboring states, where the game was already legal.

The newMassachusettslaw allows the opening of three casinos in different parts of the state. This would be complex to have little or nothing to do with Euro Vegas basically a matter of scale. Each of the casinos would mean an investment of 400 million euros, far from the 17,000 million Las Vegas Sands has budgeted for Euro Vegas inSpain. But there is a second peculiarity in legal terms. By law, each of the three projects should be put to popular vote in the respective municipalities where they intend to build. The vote is not legally binding, but mayors have pledged to respect the popular will. The strict regulations of that State have scared Sheldon Adelson, who has decided not eligible for any of the three licenses because they see business opportunities for some. “Theirs, is the major project, like the one that they want to build in Catalonia or the one that has launched in Singapore”, said by telephone the teacher at the University of Massachusetts and gaming industry expert Clyde W. Barrow. These new laws are creating a lot of controversy in this State, yet they seem to be flowing at a positive rate and they will most likely approve several more casinos in the city and online as well.
