Legalizing Casinos in Mexico
New Laws in Ensenada, Mexico
Casinos will pay taxes
July 2 is the deadline for casinos operating inEnsenada,Mexico, as they will have to pay a new fee for each “machine” that they have reported operating. This was announced by the local government and if the rules are not followed and the taxes not paid, the casinos will be closed down.
The officials recalled that while taxes generated by the casinos, until this year were intact for the Federal government, who gives permission to operate, a recent amendment to the Municipal Revenue Act, imposing a tax on each one of the machines that work in these gambling sites.
This law comes into force onJuly 2, 2012, when the casinos start to be required by the municipal authority to cover certain taxes and this will surely help the local economy a lot.
Companies that have casinos, have been aware of the law and expected to approach the municipality to define the exact amounts of these taxes, but a week of the closing date none have done so and it is still uncertain how much they will be required to pay or what any of the requisites are. .
The authorities also recalled that this administration has a policy that will not install or manage a casino, and this has been maintained to avoid even any land use to these companies.
He recalled that in the last two administrations, several permissions were given by the Government and that it was a decision of those municipalities then, to give them the land use, which actually did happen in four cases.
When officials were asked, how do you manage permissions? They answered who knows, it must be a very long process with the Government, but who gives land use is the City Council and is therefore the only fault that there are casinos, because if there is no land use permits, they cannot be installed.
They also said that the casino taxes are federal, not about neither the municipality nor the state but is affected by gambling addicts.
Hence a new law that came when a memo was sent to them to know and to know more about the implications of this new ordinance, which shall be released soon, but the date has yet to be established.
The local authorities also said there are five casinos inEnsenada, with even the remainder of June to comply, but as of July 2, which is a Monday, they will start sending the respective requirements by the Revenue Collection.
He added that rights are estimated for about 80 million dollars annually among the five casinos there but it is possible that to avoid problems these casinos will pay for protection against the willingness to continue in operation.
